I’m starting to see a recurring problem.

All of these were drawn by key animator Takumi Yokota, apart from Mariko Iguchi who drew the first one. It seems Takumi has a habit of drawing more… suggestive posters? Since he is responsible for the Kano pin-up and Haruka/Konoha/Kuroha poster as well.

I don’t understand why people are so angry about the bottom one??

It’s not like Kido is forcibly pinned down or anything, and she doesn’t look much more uncomfortable than usual. 

Yeah, the whole thing seems out of character, but why get so worked up over it? Honestly, relax you guys. You’ll make yourself sick throwing a fit over every little thing MCA doesn’t do just right.

I know I can’t speak for everyone else, but it isn’t necessarily that it’s out of character that makes me feel uncomfortable with it. Sure, it’s part of it, but at the same time it’s more the common pattern I’ve been seeing with a lot of the official art lately. Think about it… has there ever been a poster of Kido without Kano by her side? Without Kano wrapping his arms around her or something similar? It’s fine for the studio to draw characters together, or even hint at a ship. However, it’s not okay to have the repeated behaviour of only treating a character as relevant or important when with another character. Many characters in the series, even our protagonist for god’s sake, have been thrown to the side in an attempt for Shaft to catch up with the idea that Kano is one of the more, if not most, popular characters in the series. Mainly because he shows up so much and it seems like Jin made it a point to focus the story around Kano’s involvement. Shidu himself said that the anime was a way to make it up to Kano, that they wanted to spoil him. At the same time… that doesn’t mean the studio should ignore the other characters for the sake of profit, nor produce a million of the same types of posters to attempt to rake in a character’s popularity.

I agree that people get really worked up about things regarding Mekakucity Actors more than they should, but this time I think they have reason to. All of these characters deserve to be treated properly by the studio, they really do. Especially Kido.
